Udaipur, known as the “City of Lakes” lie-down in the Rajasthan state of India. The Rajput King Udai Singh 2 had built this city in 1558 when he shifted his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur under the pressure of Mugal King Akbar. Udaipur is the home of great Maharana Pratap.
Best places to visit in Udaipur: Lake Pichola
I took a flight for Udaipur from Mumbai and after checking In my hotel. I set out to see the beautiful Udaipur, and my first destination was Pichola Lake. Pichola Lake has been build in 1362 AD by Banjaras. Gipsy tribesmen who used to transport grain through the Lake, during the reign of Maharana Lakha. After seeing the charm of this Lake Maharana Udai Singh got impressed and decided to make a city here. Later King Udai sing founded the city of Udaipur on the banks of the Lake. Pichola lake is one of the most significant human-made water body in the world. Take a boat ride in Pichola lake in the evening, which will give a magnificent view of the city palace.

After enjoying the Pichola Lake I left for city Palace, which is situated on the bank of Pichola Lake only. Udaipur’s palace is the largest royal complex in Rajasthan. The magnificent Palace has been build in the year 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh. Udaipur served as the main seat of power, where the Maharanas lived and administered the kingdom. The Palace has an assortment of Mahals, courtyards, pavilions, corridors, terraces, rooms and hanging gardens. It is Nestled in the bosom of the Aravallis. The magnificent beauty of this place has many fans in the film industry as well in Bollywood and Hollywood both. Many films such as “Dhadak”, ‘Guide’ and ‘Octopussy’ have been shot here. Udaipur Palace is the main attraction of the city.

The City Palace Museum is a gold mine for Indian history enthusiasts all around the globe. Your Udaipur tour is incomplete without visiting this museum. In 1974, the City Palace has converted one section of the Palace called ‘Zenana Mahal’(Ladies Chamber) into a museum. The City Palace Museum’s name is the Pratap Museum. It has fantastic collection of antiques, sculptures, curios, and inscriptions from the ancient Rajputana Kingdom. you have to buy a separate ticket to see the museum, don’t miss it.

As you get out from the city museum palace, The Jagdish Temple is first destination lie-down at your left-hand side. The temple is standing on a tall terrace and has been built in 1651. It attaches a double-storey Mandapa (hall) to a double-storey saandhara (with a covered ambulatory) sanctum. The mandapa has another storey tucked within its pyramidal samavarna (bell-roof) while the hollow clustered spire over the sanctum contains two more, nonfunctional stories. To reach the main shrine, you have to climb 32 marble steps. The temple has a Brass image of Garuda in the end just in front of the lord Vishnu’s statue. Shri Jagdish Temple is the most beautiful example of Hindu Iconography, consisting of three stories of hand-carved stone, with a steeple nearly 79 feet high. It is the largest temple of Udaipur.

After taking the blessing of lord Vishnu, I left for Bagore-ki-Haveli. It is right on the waterfront of Lake Pichola at Gangori Ghat. Bagore ki haveli is a museum which has vast collections of puppets and turbans. The Haveli has over a hundred rooms, and every room displays royal costumes, weapons and Mewar paintings. You can see the magnificent mirror work inside the museum. It is a must-visit place while you are in Udaipur.

Best places to visit in Udaipur: Lake palace
The Lake Palace has been build between 1743 and 1746 under the direction of the Maharana Jagat Singh II of Udaipur. It was initially called Jagniwas or Jan Niwas after its founder. The palace has been made facing east, allowing its inhabitants to pray to Surya, the Hindu sun god, at the crack of dawn. The successive rulers used this palace as their summer resort, holding their regal durbars in its courtyards lined with columns, pillared terraces, fountains, and gardens. Nowadays the palace has transformed into a hotel The Taj Palace. You only can have a look from Pichola lake until or unless you are not the guest of the hotel.

Vegetarian dishes are the most liked ones in Udaipur. The main section of food in Udaipur is covered by green vegetables and lentils. Though it sounds simple but it tastes yummy with lots of different spices.
Ambari is one of the best restaurants I will recommend you all. The restaurant has the best view of Udaipur with good food and a great variety of cocktails. But remember this is a bustling restaurant if you want to enjoy lakeside sitting you have to book your table in advance. Otherwise, it is tough to get a table outside.

Udaipur has a good market for antics, cloths and Jutis. Hathi pol is the best place to buy Jutis and accessories for girls and boys. I will suggest not to buy antics because it is unreasonable costly. You can find some good harem pants in Udaipur if you love to wear.

Sculpture making is one of the most prominent arts of Udaipur. You can see many artists sitting roadside, making the beautiful marble sculptures. Sweet making is also the central part of Udaipur’s people life you can find some rare local made sweets here. People are humble and helpful in Udaipur. Gangaur is the most prominent local festival of Udaipur. Udaipur become very crowded during the Gangaur festival I will suggest to void visit Udaipur at festive season.
Many travel agencies and travel bloggers put lots of pictures of many places to visit in Udaipur. But seriously I am telling you they do it for the sake of money. They have to justify their job to show many places around. I have recently seen a blog about Udaipur from a prominent travel company, they have just clicked a horse statue pic which standing on a crossing of Udaipur and they listed that place in the must-visit list. So now you can imagine what kind of advice they are giving to the travellers. The places I have listed above are the only places to visit in Udaipur don’t waste your energy to run here and there to visit the fake places.
